Period / Story
Both of the obi used in this canvas were originally created and used during the late Showa period (1960-80ies).
Explanation and meaning of pattern and colors
On the left side canvas, a seigaiha (ocean wave) pattern obi is used. The waves are depicted in minimalist lines. Seigaiha is considered an auspicious pattern, as the endless wave motif is laden with wishes for eternal happiness and a tranquil life.
On the right, there's an upcycled Fukuro obi, showcasing rising clouds. Clouds, with their ever-changing shapes and colors as they form and dissipate, have long intrigued people as omens or signals of impending events.
This set skillfully combines these simple yet meaningful patterns, enhancing the effect with the silver thread weave of the obi fabric.
Characteristics of the fabric
At first glance, the silver weave may seem to be single color, but upon closer examination, the intricate patterns of ocean waves on the left and clouds on the right become evident. Furthermore, various weaving techniques have been employed to convey different shades of color.
This set exhibits a profound and dynamic appearance that varies depending on how light interacts with it.
Decoration Advice
Canvas can be displayed on a table, wall, etc. Hanging on a wall requires hooks, tacks or nails. It can also be displayed propped up on an easel. Ideal for a room makeover, housewarming gift, present, or souvenir for a loved one.
