Wakizashi description
This Wakizashi was made by 'Kawachi-mori Fujiwara Masahiro' in Hishu (now Kumamoto Prefecture) in 1672 (Kanbun 12) and is an excellent example designated as a specially preserved sword. It is a long Wakizashi with a blade length of 51.3 cm, but it is well proportioned with an elegant 1.0 cm warp.
It has a robust construction with an original width of 31.4 mm and an original weight of 6.8 mm, and has been designed with an awareness of practicality from the Warring States period onwards. The cone width and cone weight are precisely placed, making it a piece of high artistic value.
