Explanation and meaning of pattern and colors
The kimono featured here is adorned with a variety of decorative seigaiha pattern, which depict ocean waves. This pattern is traditionally associated with good fortune, symbolizing the idea of endless waves and the wish for eternal happiness and a peaceful life for everyone.
Characteristics of the fabric
The lining that subtly emerges from the sleeves and hem is referred to as "Hakkake," and it carries a tradition of embracing creative and vibrant colors and patterns on the reverse side of kimono.
The upper canvas made from hakkake fabric. While plain fabrics have become more common for hakkake in recent years, this particular piece utilizes a woven pattern fabric, showcasing the meticulous craftsmanship of the original kimono maker.
Japanese embroidery has been skillfully applied to the center canvas, adding a unique and artistic touch.
